Sigma Kappa highly values the academic success of the sisters. The Beta Zeta chapter recently received the Academic Achievement Award at the Executive Ball in Fall 2009, the Greek Award in Personal Development in Spring 2009, Outstanding Academic Programming for the 2010-11 school year, and maintains an average GPA above the all-sorority GPA average. Sigma Kappa sisters are represented in the thirteen undergraduate colleges. In addition, many are involved in the College Park Scholars Program, University Honors, and Honors Humanities.
On the Executive Council we have a Vice President of Scholarship who informs the sisters of various academic opportunities when she is notified about them. With the help of the Scholarship Committee, the Vice President of Scholarship organizes fun academic programs for the sisters such as a Time Management Workshop, a Scholarship Banquet, and a Pi Day celebration!
We have a Scholarship Room in the house, which is often used for studying. Sisters also study together in other rooms on the first floor of our house, which include the Date Room, Chapter Room, and Television Room. Sigma Kappa promotes academic excellence and requires the sisters to submit study hours every two weeks.
There are also many scholarships available for the sisters. Our chapter awards scholarships each semester, often to multiple sisters. There are also opportunities on the national level through the Sigma Kappa Foundation, which sisters can apply for as well.
